Very Vietnam

Vietnam! We arrived on Sunday night in Ho Chi Minh/ Saigon city in the dark after a 12 hour bus ride from Siem Reap, and had the daunting task of trying to find a place to stay...and it's still really scary! This pic above is the little alley way that our place is in. We had heard about the crazy amount of motorbikes here...and our jaws still dropped...will try get a better shot of the busy street as the one we took here is just not anywhere near it! It's such an interesting city as among the motorbikes there are ladies with cone hats carrying big grass baskets of fruit over their shoulders on a big stick, men riding around on bicycles that look like giant prams (you're meant to get a lift by sitting in the pram seat in front of the handle bars), people carrying around tall stacks of books to sell, and then people just going about everyday life like this guy we saw sanding a piece of wood with an electric sander right outside his house on the pavement of the main road...

We spent yesterday walking to the Cathay Pacific office to try make changes to our plane ticket, only to find they were closed for a public holiday, and catching the city bus to the airport (getting a R4 tour of the city in the process!), only to find its a really small airport so no office there either...

We've had some interesting food experiences, Steven spotted these things he thought were spring rolls, and it was disgusting, it tasted like fish in lettuce and tons of chives, with a fried egg, wrapped in rice paper. One bite was definitely enough. And we've been having a good laugh at ourselves trying to master chop sticks. Its definitely more a case of the chopsticks mastering us at this stage...

Today we're doing a trip to the Mekong Delta, yipee...will post pics later while we have free internet at the place we're staying.
