After an 11 hour overnight bus ride in a swaying, rattling, bouncing, and air-con dripping-on-our-head, bus, we arrived in hot and sweaty Bangkok. We've been here three days, sorting out visa's for china and vietnam, and walking ourselves flat because we refuse to takea tuk-tuk taxi! Bangkok is crazy, busy, an assault on the senses, especially smell, as there areinnumerable food stalls everywhere selling all sorts of food and drinks and somethings that look like a bit of both.
We have been staying in a quaint backpackers called Suk 11, where all the passages between rooms are decorated to look completely outdoors, like old fashioned Thailand with cobbled paving pathways, wooden bridges, and old teak houses...really lovely!
We are leaving Thailand tomorrow and taking a bus to Cambodia, and in saying goodbye to Thailand we are proud to say that we have learnt to become two good little Thai's. We take our shoes off before going inside guesthouses, we dont put our feet up on our chairs, or step over anything on the pavement, we don't lick our fingers after eating, and smile and say no politely when asked for the 500th time in one day: hey you, where you go?, and we eat our rice and noodles with the customary spoon and fork combination.
We have also learnt how to spot a backpacker-
1. They are carrying the Lonely Planet guide to South East Asia on a Shoestring
2. They have a tattoo...or many
3. They have their faces stuck in a novel.
Goodbye Thailand, its been great!
The blog's a great idea. Feel like we travelling with you without the heat!
